CAHA offers house, select and travel hockey through U-14/Bantam Major. After players U-14/Bantam Major year, there are a variety of options to continue playing hockey: high school hockey, high school club hockey, and pre-post hockey. There may be other travel options, as well.

Some players may have a choice of high school hockey instead of their U14/Bantam major year, depending on their grade/age group. If you have questions about which is right for your player, families are encouraged to talk to their CAHA coach and their future high school coach.

High School Hockey: Players who attend high school where high school hockey is offered typically play for their high school. High school hockey is run through the Capital Hockey Conference and is a part of Ohio High School Athletic Association, rather than USA Hockey as we are used to at CAHA. Some schools have both varsity and junior varsity options. Some are varsity only. It can vary year to year depending on numbers, so the best resource for your school offerings is the high school team's varsity coach/website. (see list below) http://www.capitalhockeyconference.com

Pre-Post Hockey: High school hockey typically runs from the beginning of November through end of February/beginning of March, depending on how far teams make it in the state tournament. For players looking for additional hockey, there are several pre-post teams in the Columbus area that operate like travel teams that will have practices, games and tournaments for the months prior to the high school season starting and sometimes after the high school season ends. (see Pre-Post information below)

High School Club Hockey: For players who do not have a high school hockey offered at their schools, the players can play high school club hockey. High school club hockey in central Ohio is run through the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League. These teams are divided up by location, so where you live will determine which club team you are eligible to try out for. (ex. Westerville Warcats, Hilliard Wildcats, etc). (see High School Club Hockey below) https://www.gchschl.net Also - here is a link to the PDF to determine club based on location. These teams begin their seasons as early as August and many have summer on and off ice programs. Their season typically ends in March. Also - if a club has a surplus of skaters, extra skaters can go into a pool to find a spot on another club. If your skater wants to skate - they will help them find a spot!

Travel Hockey: There are also other travel options like AAA Ohio Blue Jackets and the AA Thunderbirds.

It is never too early to connect with your future high school team. It is recommended that you make sure they have your contact information by 7th grade so they can reach out about future player skates, but some schools start future player skates in elementary, so it is never too early to connect.

Pre-Post contacts/websites:

Pre-post offerings differ based on the organization. There are several options for pre-post. This typically runs August - October and some meet up again after the high school season ends in February/March. This is for those playing high school hockey, not typically club high school hockey as those seasons generally conflict. Each team is a bit different, so it is suggested you visit the site for each team to learn more.
