Capital Amateur Hockey Association is pleased to announce the following information related to travel hockey tryouts for the upcoming 2020-2021 season.

The tryout session for the upcoming 2020-2021 season is going to be different than in the past. As we are all dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and responses/restrictions, we are doing the best we can in a very unique and ever-changing situation. Please bear with us as we are trying to do what is best to keep the kids safe and plan for an uncertain upcoming travel season.

REGISTRATION:

REGISTRATION OPENS: June 22 (at 7am)

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: June 30

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED.

NOTE: The ONLY exceptions to the registration deadline is for players who played for the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets during the 2019-2020 season and do not make the team for the upcoming season. If you have a player in this situation, please email dan.cousineau@cahahockey.com or bill.graver@cahahockey.com for information about late registration.

If your player is trying out for AAA but is not a current AAA player, they should register at CAHA by the deadline. We will refund any player who accepts a position at AAA (whose tryouts are before CAHA’s) prior to CAHA tryouts. (Refund requests should go to: )

TRYOUT FEE:

The try-out fee is $400. $100 of that fee is a non-refundable tryout fee. $300 of that is a commitment fee that will go directly to your player’s team dues immediately upon accepting a spot with a team. If your player does not make a CAHA travel team, the $300 will be refunded to you. If your player makes a CAHA team, but your player declines, the $300 fee will not be refunded (see below for Bantam exception).

**IF THE TRYOUT FEE IS NOT PAID WITHIN 45 MINUTES OF YOUR REGISTRATION, THE REGISTRATION WILL BE DELETED AND YOU WILL LOSE THE SPOT.

** The commitment fee is implemented for this year only** Our goal is not to discourage players from trying out at CAHA, but we are trying to encourage ALL who are interested in playing travel hockey at CAHA to try out. Keeping players, coaches and families safe is paramount. As well, with expected limitations on the number of kids who can be on the ice and bench at the same time, it is crucial that only players who are interested in playing travel hockey at CAHA are a part of the tryout process.

If your player does not make a CAHA travel team, you will receive a refund in the amount of $300 (commitment fee).

If your player makes a CAHA team, but your player declines, the $300 fee will not be refunded.

If your player makes a AAA team and notifies CAHA prior to tryouts, your entire fee ($100 tryout fee and $300 commitment fee) will be refunded.

For Bantam age group only, if your player declines a spot because they have accepted a higher-level spot on another travel team, you will receive a refund on the $300 commitment fee. There are no refunds if a player makes a similar level team (AA=AA or A=A).  To receive the refund, the CAHA team must be notified in a timely manner and before A tryouts are complete for CAHA. For those trying out elsewhere, please be open and honest with the coaches when a CAHA offer is made. Given the current situation, CAHA cannot wait until all tryouts in the area are complete to finalize teams. We know this is difficult for some players and families and are hopeful that we can help everyone navigate this very unusual year for tryouts. For those trying out at the Vikings, the timing should align to be able to notify CAHA within a reasonable time if your player accepts a spot there instead of CAHA.

Again, our goal is not to discourage players from trying out at CAHA, but we are trying to encourage ALL who are interested in playing travel hockey at CAHA to try out.

Refunds will be processed as soon as possible after all tryouts conclude.

14U Minor 2007AA

12U Major 2008 AA

12U Minor 2009 AA

12U A - CAHA hopes to have a 12U-A team.  However, whether A teams are formed and the make-up of A teams (single birth year or mixed birth years) depends on a variety of factors (coaches, number of players trying out, etc).***

10U Major 2010 AA

10U Minor 2011 AA

10U A – CAHA hopes to have a 10U-A team.  The make-up of the team(s) (2010, 2011, mix 10/11) will depend on tryouts.***

***As always, the number and make up of teams will depend on considerable analysis of the past year’s season, the number of qualified players trying out, coaching and ice availability for our organization.  The formation of an "A" team is not guaranteed.

TRYOUT GENERAL INFO:

Your player will need to have their NEW (2020-2021) USA Hockey number before you can register. New numbers are now available from USA Hockey.

You must have a zero balance on your account before you will be permitted to register.

PLAYUPS: Play ups are not generally allowed at the travel level. Parents of 2012 birth year players wishing to be considered for playing up to the 2011AA team should email Dan Cousineau, CAHA’s Hockey Director who will assess the request.

The Travel Committee strongly encourages all parents to visit the CAHA website – www.cahahockey.com and review the information under “Travel Hockey.” There is information about expectations (cost, travel, evaluations, practices, etc.). While each team is slightly different, there are some basic expectations that are laid out here so parents understand the commitment level prior to accepting a spot on a team.

With the ever-changing requirements at the rinks, we will continue to communicate with registered players about expectations as we get closer to tryout dates.

Any further communication about travel tryouts will be sent to the email that was provided upon registration for tryouts. Updated information about tryouts can be found on the Travel Tryout 2020-2021 webpage.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and support as we navigate this very unusual year.

Thank you,

CAHA Travel Committee
